Math 118

Postby Flower Child » December 18th, 2010, 11:03 pm

Has anyone taken Concepts in Mathematics Math 118? This will be my second semester at ivy tech. I just took Math 015 and got a B. I am wanting to take 118 online. Any advice or suggestions on this class? I am also taking Medical Terminology HLHS 101 online. Same questions about that class as well.

Medical terminology has alot of memorization. It is a fun class though. I am taking 118 next semester. I have looked through the book and it looks tough.

you'll still need to take Math 023 and 043 or 035 before you can take 118.

I am not sure what Campus you take classes. But for Math, Chris Bolt, from Columbus is a great teacher. He makes sure you understand, even if your the only one asking questions in class. I have taken 035 with him.

I did not know I needed Math 023 and 043 or 035 before Math 118. Ok so what Math out of those is the easiest? Just completed 015.

Yep, you do not need any other pre-reqs.
( Course or Test: MATH 015
Minimum Grade of SC
May not be taken concurrently. )
or( Course or Test: MATH 023
Minimum Grade of SC
May not be taken concurrently. )

I wouldn't recommend taking it online though. It is a different type of math class.

My study requires math136. I'm taking 015, then 035 to get to 136. This is the format, 015 qnd 035. These are 5 credit hour math classes. The 023 and 043 are the 3 hour versions of the 015 and 035. This is my understanding of the path to 136 for some one like me.( I have limited math back ground)

I thought 023 was the new 050... I said 035/043 by mistake... but I still thought they'd need 023 before 118. Didn't know you could go from 015.

Confusing..I would talk to an advisor b/c when you try to sign up for classes, it says 015 OR 023 not and.

Are you studying for Medical Assistant? If so, my math instructor indicated that it is only Math 015 and then Math 118. 035, nor 043 were required.

The math class pre-reqs depend on what degree you are seeking. For example:

MA = 015 > 118
LPN = 015 > 035
RN = 015 > 035/043 > 136

Math 118 online

Postby jwhite29 » January 1st, 2011, 9:49 pm

I just finished math 118 online. It covered alot of material that I was not familiar with but if you set aside time to study you should be fine. There are two tests that are proctored and they count as 70% of your final grade. Good Luck!

Just wondering if you have a syllabus from your math 118 online class that I can look at to get a better generalization of the course!

I also just finished math 118 online last semester. I did not think it was bad at all. If you have the time to sit down and read the book and practice/study. Then you will be just fine. There were 2 proctored test in my class as well worth 70% of my grade. Overall, I thought the class was pretty easy. You just have to make sure not to get behind.

I took Math 015 and tested out so I skipped the others and went to 118. It's alot of formulas.
